Digital Photos versus Classic Photos
Nowadays more and more people mistake digital photography for classic photography. Some are misinformed, others never touched a classic camera in their lives, and others simply can not tell the differences. Digital and classic photography are subjects of a big controversy. Some consider digital photography a grosser alteration of reality, others claim that classic cameras are outdated and not worth the effort. And not only common camera users enter the debate on this matter. It’s true that most of experienced users of both can see the advantages and disadvantages and can’t tell a winner.
An adept of the past will never agree to digital photography masterpieces and they will immediately see the images they considered altered in a god-like way, which cuts off the right to opinion of viewers. Macro that allows you to bring the subject forward is the function that gave birth to this affirmation. Macro is a nice function that is smart enough to distinguish the subject from the surrounding environment and to blur everything else but this subject. Classic photography militants argue this function and state that the picture can not be individually critiqued anymore, because it will transmit the same image to all viewers. Those who want to comment upon the macro-ed picture will not be able to create an outline because they are forced to view only the central piece. Some voices militate even against flash. They are actually referring to night shots, witch should not be taken at all if flash is used. These people consider that flash is another form of macro if used in night pictures, because the overall effect is so much alike.
On the other hand, those who are not as reluctant to new technologies, praise digital photography. They are grateful for the macro function that allows them to make their primary subject stand forward, because that is exactly what they want from their picture. These people are happy to see others see in their picture the exact thing they wanted to point out, they like the picture as they imagined it and do not want other to have different views. And about the flash, some people laugh when they hear that … “flash is evil”.
No matter where you stand in this debate, the truth is that digital photography is not here to ruin the taste of classic photos. This form of photography is not only easier and more accessible, but also let expensive and more versatile than classic photography.. snapfish
Tools for copy stand photography?
I have a copy stand and take macro shots of small items. I need some type of device, kinda like helping hands, that I can use to hold the objects still (and suspended in mid-air) while I adjust the camera settings. Also can you suggest some type of back drop? Any suggestions?
You might want to try a small "light tent" for macro photography. You can either make one yourself or buy one for under $70. I also recommend "jeweler's putty" for holding up rings and small objects as well as non-reflecting glass (usually called "museum glass" available at frame shops). By using the putty and glass held above the table of the stand, you will be able to produce shadowless images. For backgrounds, I suggest black velvet, neutral gray, and white seamless paper to make then have no horizon.
