Things To Know About The White Lavender Plants
Many gardeners and hobbyists consider lavender plants as one of their favorite because they can be utilized for many purposes. Certain lavender species such as English lavender plant provide herbal benefits while French lavender can be used for cooking and baking. But aside from the hardy lavender plant varieties, there's a special specie known as White lavender plants. The scientific term for white lavender plants is Lavandula Intermedia that is categorized as belonging to the mint family. It is also calledby the name hedge lavender. In fact, white lavender plants are one of the best-smelling lavender specie that is most utilized as fresh or dried bouquets. It is also used as an ingredient in perfume, oils, wands, and sachets.
Characteristics The white lavender plants can be best illustrated as spear shaped or probably oblong shaped. The sweet smelling tiny linear leaves have a grayish-green color. Like any lavender plant variety, it is a perennial subshrub that can possibly develop woody stems in the middle. This makes pruning at an early age necessary to prevent such woody formations. The flowers of white lavender plants are sweet-smelling and appears as dark-violet, lavender-blue, or pure white color. The white lavender variety are noted for their long stems that can be of great use in creating potpourri and linen sachets. Usually, white lavender plants reach a height of three feet.
Cultivation Regularly, white lavender plants bloom during summertime while the right time to do some pruning would be during spring. Like any lavender plant variety, white lavender plants are very resilient and can survive long periods of drought making it an ideal choice for a rock garden. Full sunlight is good for the plant and would thrive well in sandy soils or clay loam. If soil is wet, it must be drained before planting seeds. Dampness is the leading cause of death among white lavender plants so considerations must be made during winter season. It should also be protected against the wind so place it near fence or rocks. As a hedge, it brings out the colors of other flowering plants in the garden.
