White Cyc
The article will talk about the differences concerning Traditional and Projection Cyclorama. A white cyc is a special stage background or backdrop that encloses or surrounds most of the stage so special visual effects may be used for different movie media, or live action on the stage. The color white is needed for the cyc since it can be voided out or exchanged using a digital background.
The White cyclorama has two primary features. One is that it serves as a hiding instrument to avert the audience from observing into the back stage area. In general the rear wall is hidden from sight. It provides a beautiful effective and appropriate background for the film making. The white surfaced cyc today remains being utilized as a full-stage cloth, and remains in a well stocked theater's catalog. The second is that it gives a surface for easy illumination to produce or improve the scene's atmosphere, and when the white cyc is lighted, it is a standard background for: dance, opera, and plays.
Currently there are several varieties or styles of White Cyclorama backdrops the Traditional, and Projection Cyclorama. What is the classic white surfaced cyc made out of? The white cyc is created from your standard cotton or types of products like muslin having a semi-opaque textile surface. The traditional White Cyc has a number of challenges that the user has to deal with to have a very good visual effect.
These difficulties of the traditional white cyc are as follows: One is that the Semi-Opaque textile with all brand new lighting technologies still has problems with illuminating the top area causing reflections to surface with intense edges and scallops causing issues with certain visual backdrop effects like the illusion of sky within the stage. For even lighting, classic white cyc requires standard spacing and pigmentation. The lighting effects must be visualized within the front of the white cyc to avoid the viewers from discovering the source of lighting. Attention should be regarded to maintain the cyclorama free of dust because it is hard to wash. Additionally, when the cyc has been in storage it must be hung up and steamed for a period of time to take out creases.
The projection cyclorama, projection white cyc or procyc still supplies the necessary masking task. This may be the only function it has in common with the traditional cyclorama. The projection cyc material is a see-through medium which diffuses light through it like dyes in water. This helps prevent hard outlines and scallops from taking place when lighted. The projection cyc can be lighted from the front, the rear, or both front and rear simultaneously. Light fixtures could be positioned right in front of the projection cyc without out showing the audience the light supply. This is the immense distinction between the projection cyclorama and the traditional cyclorama. Lastly, the projection cyclorama allows for an extraordinary range of sky drops or backdrops.
I am starting my professional, and I need studio equipment...?
I started my photography business this year. I have my camera. I need a stand for my backdrops and extra lighting. Now the only thing is I will travel to people so I need something that is easy to lug around. where do I go to find that.
I also would like to know what is the best printing paper for my printer when I do instant photo's?
Is cloth material good for the background?
I went to adorma.com and I found somethings on there but I figured you guys would know more places or websites.
Thank You!
Simple one first... I would not print your own unless you really need to. It is much cheaper for me to use a lab (online) rather than invest in the equipment that is needed for professional prints.
Backdrop stands are cheap on ebay. I have one and it works great. It is 12' wide and up to 10' high. It holds both rolls of paper or canvas or cloth backdrops. It folds down into a carry bag.
For lights check out Alien Bees. I have them and love them. They are cheap and very portable. They are probably somewhere between consumer and pro grade, but they have never failed me. They also have an awesome resale value if you decide to liquidate. Get at least the 800's or 1600's if you can afford them. Accessories are very inexpensive for the Alien Bees also.
I use cloth, and seamless paper backdrops. The seamless paper is not practical for portable, so look into cloth. The green screen technology is getting a lot better if you want to look into digital backdrops. I have no experience in those though, but look interesting.
Hope this helps.
